In a recent interaction with the media, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly revealed that acclaimed Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is set to portray him in an upcoming biopic. Ganguly shared, "From what I've heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the titular role... but there are issues of dates... so it will take more than a year to hit the screens."
The film promises to delve into the illustrious career of Ganguly, who played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India, scoring an impressive 18,575 runs across all international formats.
Besides his on-field accomplishments, Ganguly, fondly known as the "Prince of Kolkata," took on significant off-field roles, serving as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
During his cricketing career, he led India to 21 Test victories and the final of the 2003 World Cup. Post-retirement in 2008, with over 18,000 international runs, Ganguly remained influential in cricket administration as a member of BCCI's technical committee and the Cricket Advisory Committee alongside legends Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.
On the cinematic front, Rajkummar Rao will soon grace the screen in "Bhool Chuk Maaf," a film featuring Wamiqa Gabbi. Recently, the film's teaser was released; it begins with a seemingly typical wedding arrangement that turns intriguing as Haldi preparations mysteriously repeat, trapping Rao's character in a comedic time loop.
The teaser catches attention with the engaging backdrop of "Chor Bazaari" from the popular film "Love Aaj Kal" (2009).
Directed by Karan Sharma and produced under Maddock Films in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, "Bhool Chuk Maaf" joins Rao's busy slate. In addition, Rao's collaboration in "Maalik," produced by Kumar Taurani for Tips Films alongside Jay Shewakramani's Northern Lights Films, is also highly anticipated and is scheduled for theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
As fans eagerly await Rajkummar's portrayal of Ganguly, his diverse film choices continue to garner attention and admiration.
