New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) – Acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan's film "Homebound" is scheduled to be showcased at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie, starring prominent actors Ishaan Khatter, Jahnvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, is included in the exclusive Gala Presentations line-up for the festival's 50th edition, happening from September 4 to 14.

"Homebound," produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, enjoyed its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it was featured under the Un Certain Regard section. The renowned producer, Karan Johar, announced the film's journey to Toronto via his official Instagram, expressing his excitement: "#Homebound has been officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 (@tiff_net) in the Gala Presentations category. Extremely thrilled and elated to be a part of this prestigious festival - another time for us at Dharma!!!" he wrote.

Other notable films in the Gala Presentations category include Chloe Zhao's "Hamnet," Derek Cianfrance's "Roofman," Rebecca Zlotowski's "A Private Life," and Nicholas Hytner's "The Choral."

"Homebound," with Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese as its executive producer, tells the compelling story of two childhood friends, portrayed by Khatter and Jethwa. These characters, from a small village in North India, aspire to join the police force as a means of achieving the dignity that has long eluded them. However, the increasing desperation of their pursuit threatens the friendship that binds them. The film draws inspiration from the 2020 New York Times essay "Taking Amrit Home" by journalist Basharat Peer.

Scorsese joined the project as an executive producer in April and expressed admiration for Ghaywan's previous work, including the 2015 film “Masaan,” which also screened at Cannes under Un Certain Regard. "When Melita Toscan du Plantier sent me the project of his second film, I was curious. I loved the story, the culture and was willing to help. Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that’s a significant contribution to Indian cinema. I am glad the movie is an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year," shared the 82-year-old legendary director.

Karan Johar, along with Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, produced the film, marking another significant collaboration for Dharma Productions in international cinema.
