London, Aug 28 (AP) British actor Micheal Ward has been granted bail following his appearance at a central London court to face charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 27-year-old actor, known for his role in the Netflix crime drama “Top Boy,” is facing two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
The alleged incidents took place in January 2023, and all charges pertain to a single woman.
At Thames Magistrates' Court, Ward confirmed his name, address, and date of birth during his brief hearing. He did not enter any pleas and has been granted conditional bail. He is set to appear next at Snaresbrook Crown Court in northeast London on September 25.
Ward’s bail conditions include not contacting the alleged victim.
The actor has denied the charges, expressing confidence that he will be exonerated in court. Previously, in a statement, he mentioned his “full faith” in being cleared of the allegations.
Ward has garnered attention for his performances in films like “Blue Story,” “The Book of Clarence,” and the recently released American political satire “Eddington,” where he stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal.
In 2020, he earned the Rising Star award at the British Academy Film Awards, or BAFTAs. He has been nominated for an acting BAFTA for Sam Mendes' “Empire of Light” and for a BAFTA television award for the Steve McQueen-directed series “Small Axe.”
