Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung starrer 'My Demon' has concluded after 16 episodes. The SBS fantasy drama kept K-fanatics hooked till the last episode with its intriguing plot and intense chemistry between the leads. 'My Demon' ended on a happy note, but not before it brought fans' 'Goblin' trauma back. While the two dramas have no interrelation to each other, they are now being compared for one particular scene.
In one of the concluding episodes of 'My Demon', Song Kang's character, Jung Gu Won, who is a Demon, disappears in thin air after a fiery demise. The heartbreaking scene signalled his death, prompting his wife, Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo Jung), to have an instant meltdown. While fans were worried if this meant a sad ending for the pair, the scene also brought the 'Goblin' trauma back for many, as they could not help but draw parallels between the two supernatural beings, given the similarity of the setup of this particular scene. It's noteworthy that both scenes were shot by cinematographer Park Sung Yong.
'Goblin' starring Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun was released in 2017. The K-drama, despite courting its set of controversies, went on to become a cult classic and fan favourite. Now, the fans of the drama have called out 'My Demon' makers, accusing them of plagiarising the concept. However, a section of netizens have also defended the almost similar set-up, saying it's a universal theme that fantasy dramas have been following for over a decade.
Both 'My Demon' and 'Goblin' are streaming on Netflix.
