Mumbai, Sep 5 (PTI) Actor Jim Sarbh finds working with Manoj Bajpayee both intimidating and inspiring, remaining in awe of the senior actor’s ability to turn the simplest moments into unforgettable ones.

The two actors share the screen in "Inspector Zende", premiering on Netflix on Friday. Directed by acclaimed Marathi actor-turned-filmmaker Chinmay Mandlekar, the film features Bajpayee as the sharp-witted cop in a tense game of cat and mouse with Sarbh’s charming but elusive Carl Bhojraj. Loosely inspired by the real-life arrest of the notorious serial killer Charles Sobhraj by Mumbai police officer Madhukar Zende, the film promises intrigue and suspense.

Sarbh has been a long-time admirer of Bajpayee, recalling his impactful performance in Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs of Wasseypur". “I'll never forget that scene in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ where he's pretending to wash clothes. It was so funny, and he did it so well. It made me want to watch everything he has done. I’m still slightly frightened of him and on edge about what his character might do,” shared the 38-year-old actor in an interview with PTI.

Expressing amazement at Bajpayee's talent, Sarbh praised how effortlessly he stays rooted in his character, adding nuances that make scenes unforgettable. He also expressed excitement for Bajpayee’s upcoming release "Jugnuma".

Sarbh, known for his praised performances in “Neerja,” “Padmaavat,” and “Rocket Boys,” shared that he watched old footage of Sobhraj to prepare for his character of serial killer Carl Bhojraj. “I watched interviews of the original person, noted his thick French accent, which was vital to his persona, and observed his body language and mannerisms," Sarbh explained.

He credited director Chinmay Mandlekar for crafting contrasting worlds of Inspector Zende and Carl Bhojraj. “Chinmay managed to pull it off perfectly, where one side is very serious and intense, slowly dragged into the other person’s world, and the one who likes to laugh eventually wins,” said Sarbh.

“Inspector Zende” also features renowned Marathi film industry actors, including Sachin Khedekar, Bhalchandra Kadam, Girija Oak, Onkar Raut, and Harish Dudhade. The film is produced by Jay Shewakramani and Om Raut, the director of “Adipurush”.
