Borat creator Sacha Baron Cohen responded to Rebel Wilson's revelation about her upcoming memoir, ‘Rebel Rising,’ where she reportedly wrote a chapter about working with him on the 2016 movie ‘The Brothers Grimsby’ and accused him of trying to silence her.
A representative for Sacha commented that while they value speaking out, these claims are demonstrably false and contradicted by extensive evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those involved in The Brothers Grimsby production.
‘While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby,’ a rep for Sacha said.
Earlier, Rebel took to social media and wrote, ‘I will not be bullied or silenced with high-priced lawyers or PR crisis managers. The ‘a******’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is Sasha Baron Cohen.’
Rebel had previously teased that the book would explain her 'no a******* policy'.
‘I don’t work with a*******.’ I was like, ‘Oh yeah. I mean that sounds sensible, logical,’ she said via an Instagram video earlier this month. She added, ‘Then it really sunk in what they were meaning by that: Older people in the industry.’
Rebel's book 'Rebel Rising' is set to release on April 2. Describing it as sharing her deepest secrets with a friend, she promises some laughs along the way.
About Cohen
The British star gained fame with daring comedy, embodying characters like Ali G and Borat.
Wilson, describing their dynamic on set, mentioned his outrageous persona, including persistent requests for nude scenes and scenes that were ‘just the most disgusting thing ever.’
Speaking in 2014, she said, ‘He just keeps pushing you and pushing you and pushing the comedy in every single scene, which is why his stuff is so out loud funny.’
