Singer Madonna resumed her Celebration Tour on October 14 after battling a life-threatening bacterial infection.
According to a CNN report, the singer addressed the health scare during the London show and said, ‘I didn't think I was going to make it, neither did my doctors. That's why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me.’
‘If you want to know my secret, and you want to know how I pulled through and how I survived, I thought, 'I've got to be there for my children. I have to survive for them,'’ she added.
Madonna, who performed at the O2 Arena, paid homage to late icons like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Sinead O'Connor during the concert.
As Madonna sang verses from her emotional ballad ‘In This Life’ from her 1992 album ‘Erotica’, the arena's giant screens displayed pictures of AIDS epidemic victims.
Madonna also sang her 1986 hit ‘Live to Tell’ in honour of her friend and late artist Keith Haring, whose picture was also displayed.
Several clips from the show have gone viral on social media and fans are overjoyed to see the singer recover and perform with high energy alongside her daughters.
Madonna also shared a clip from the opening night on X, formerly Twitter, which garnered over 1.7 million views. She wrote, ‘Thank you LONDON! Opening Night! An Evening I will never forget.’
Madonna announcing tour break
In July, in an Instagram post, the singer thanked her fans for their ‘positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement.’
She wrote, ‘I have felt your love. I'm on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life. My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappointment anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn't want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.’
She added, ‘My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I'll be back with you as soon as I can! The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe. I couldn't be more grateful for your care and support. Love, M.’
