Shawn Levy's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has scripted box office history. The latest MCU flick set the domestic box office berserk, crossing Rs 66.15 crore nett over the opening weekend in India. Making the most of the extended opening weekend, the film minted around $205 million (Rs 1715 crore) in the US alone, per trade website Sacnilk.
'Deadpool & Wolverine', the 34th film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has set the Indian box office on fire, as predicted by trade analysts. As per the early estimates, the film recorded a smashing Rs 66.15 crore nett in India in the opening weekend. After a promising opening at around Rs 21 crore on Friday, the film made around Rs 22.50 crore on Sunday. On Saturday, the superhero comedy film raked in Rs 22.65 crore.
The Ryan Reynolds starrer has surpassed the 'Godzilla x Kong' collection to become 2024’s biggest Hollywood opener in India. Regarding Bollywood films of the year, it stands second after Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer 'Fighter' to have the biggest opening weekend collection.
The worldwide figure for the film after the first weekend stands in the range of $438.3 million (approximately Rs 3670 crore), as reported by Sacnilk. Shattering all the previous records, the superhero flick has emerged as the 12th biggest Hollywood opener of all time at the global box office. The film is also the biggest opener of 2024, breaking the record for the biggest opening for an R-rated movie in the US. It cost $200 million to produce and brought in $205 million in its first weekend at the US box office.
In terms of the international markets, the film minted the biggest numbers from China, where it registered an opening weekend of $24 million (Rs 200.92 crore), followed by the UK at $22.10 million (Rs 185.02 crore), and Mexico with $18.70 million (Rs 156.55 crore).
The initial box office success of 'Deadpool & Wolverine' reinforces MCU's box office dominance after a series of setbacks for the celebrated film franchise. However, it would be interesting to see if the action flick passes the Monday test successfully.
