It's finally happening! 'Red, White & Royal Blue' sequel is in the works, Amazon Prime Video announced on Friday. The second instalment will see Nicholas Galitzne and Taylor Zakhar Perez reprising their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, respectively, in this coming-of-age romance drama. The first part was released in 2023.
“It’s official, a Red, White & Royal Blue sequel is in the works,” the official handle of Prime Video wrote on X alongside a poster featuring a cake with the flags of the US and UK pinned on it. A candle shaped like the numerical 2 was also placed in the middle of the cake.
'Red, White & Royal Blue' is based on Casey McQuiston young adult romance of the same name. It follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez), a first son of the United States, and his romantic relationship with Prince Henry (Galitzine), a British prince. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew López will return to write the script, alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter reunite to produce the film, joined by Michael McGrath, as well as López, while McQuiston will serve as an executive producer.
Nicholas Galtizine, who is currently making headlines for his leading role in 'The Idea of You' alongside Anne Hathaway, recently set records straight about his sexuality. While he asserted that he identifies as a straight man, the actor said that he felt somewhat guilty when deciding whether or not to play a gay character.
“I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories,” Galitzine told the publication. “I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”
The release date of 'Red, White & Royal Blue' sequel has yet to be announced. Details related to the plots have also been kept under wraps.
