Los Angeles, August 14 (PTI) – Denzel Washington, a two-time Academy Award winner, emphasizes that accolades like Oscars are not what drive his passion for acting.

In a recent press tour for his upcoming film “Highest 2 Lowest,” Washington shared with journalist Jake Hamilton, “I don’t pursue Oscars. Those things don’t matter to me.” He elaborated, “I’ve been in the industry for a long time. There were times I won when I shouldn’t have, and times I didn’t win when maybe I should have. Man gives the award. God gives the reward.”

When discussing his two Oscar wins and nine nominations, he conveyed, “I’m not particularly interested in Oscars. People often ask me where I keep them. Well, they’re next to each other. On my last day, those Oscars won’t mean much.” Washington’s first Oscar was for Best Supporting Actor in “Glory” in 1990, and his second came in 2002 for Best Actor in “Training Day,” where his performance alongside Ethan Hawke was memorable.

Last year, Hawke shared Washington’s perspective on Oscar recognition in an interview with Chris Wallace. “He doesn’t see an award as something that should elevate his status. He thinks it’s the award that should be honored to have his name,” Hawke noted.

Throughout his illustrious career, Washington has delivered powerful performances in numerous respected and successful films, such as “Malcolm X”, “Inside Man”, “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, “Fight,” and “Fences.”

Washington’s next appearance will be in Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest," an inventive reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 classic "High and Low."
