Mumbai, Aug 15 (PTI) The creators of "Border 2" have commemorated the 79th Independence Day with the unveiling of the film's first poster, revealing that the movie is set to premiere in cinemas on January 22, 2026, aligning with the extended Republic Day weekend.

The follow-up to J P Dutta's iconic 1997 film "Border" will see Sunny Deol reprising his role as a seasoned soldier. The poster depicts him in military gear, wielding a bazooka, his expression radiating intense determination.

Drawing inspiration from real-life events, the film is helmed by director Anurag Singh and features an ensemble cast that includes Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Medha Rana, Mona Singh, and Sonam Bajwa.

The production team comprises Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J P Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta.

In an official statement, Bhushan Kumar remarked, "‘Border’ is more than a film — it’s an emotion for every Indian. With ‘Border 2’, we aim to carry forward that legacy and bring it to a new generation. The new release date gives audiences more time to come together and experience the film in theatres during an extended Republic Day weekend."

Nidhi Dutta added that the latest installment is intended as a “heartfelt salute” to the armed forces, promising to elicit the “same pride and tears” as the original.

Director Singh noted the symbolism in choosing Independence Day for their announcement, stating, “This day reminds us of the sacrifices made by our soldiers for India’s freedom and so does our film. It’s an honour and a privilege to honour their undying spirit through this story.”

"Border 2" is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, in collaboration with J P Films.
