Veteran actor Tanuja discharged from hospital; health parameters now 'normal'

Veteran actor Tanuja, who was in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU), was discharged on December 18th, according to a source.

The 80-year-old actor, known for movies such as ‘Jewel Thief’ and ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, was taken to a Juhu hospital on December 17 due to age-related complications.

‘She was discharged from the hospital late last night as all her health parameters were normal,’ the source told PTI.
Tanuja, the mother of actors Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji, was a popular figure in 1960s and 1970s Hindi and Bengali cinema. She has appeared in films like 'Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi', 'Mere Jeevan Sathi', 'Jeene Ki Raah', 'Deya Neya', 'Teen Bhubaner Pare', and 'Prothom Kadam Phool'.
Tanuja began her career as a child artist in the 1950 film ‘Hamari Beti,’ which was directed by her mother, Shobhna Samarth, and also marked the debut of her elder sister, Nutan.

Tanuja has also appeared in TV shows like ‘Aarambh’ and ‘Junoon.’
Tanuja was last seen in Prime Video’s 2022 anthology ‘Modern Love: Mumbai’.
Tanuja turned 80 in September 2023. Kajol, Tanisha, and Ajay all took to social media to wish her a happy birthday.

‘Happy eightieth birthday, mom. I can never thank you enough for everything you’ve taught me by example and still continue to do so today. I love you to bits and pieces… Eight decades of love, wisdom, and laughter! Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom!’ Kajol wrote.

Tanisha also penned down a heartwarming note for her mother which read, ‘Happy birthday my Maaaaa! My warrior my devi! The one who showed me that age is just a number and that life is for living on ur own terms ! Here are just a few images that show the many colours that make u You! Generous loving and always ready to take care of everyone!!! Love uuu my earth mother.’
