Producer Ekta Kapoor is making headlines once again over her web series ‘XXX’. The Supreme Court slammed Ekta over 'objectionable content' in her web series, and said that she was 'polluting the minds of the young generation'. The apex court also questioned her counsel about what kind of choice she is providing to the people.
SC bench consisting of Justices Ajay Rastogi and C.T. Ravikumar heard a plea filed by Ekta Kapoor challenging her arrest warrant for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their families through the content in her web series 'XXX', which streamed on her OTT platform ALTBalaji.
Hearing the petition, the court stated 'Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to all. OTT (Over The Top) content is available to all. What kind of choice are you providing to the people?....on the contrary you are polluting the minds of youngsters'.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, Ekta’s defence lawyer, has requested the court to provide protection for her citing the decision of the court in the past on the similar matter. He defended Ekta's freedom of choice and said the content in question is subscription based.
The court also criticised Ekta's lawyer after he said that the plea was filed before the Patna High Court but there was no hope that the matter will be heard soon. The court also warned the filmmaker not to file more such pleas, otherwise she'll be fined by the court.
A complaint was lodged by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman before the trial court in Bihar's Begusarai. He alleged that the series 'XXX' (Season-2) had featured several objectionable scenes demeaning soldier's wife.
