Saif Ali Khan did not pursue cricket like his late father and grandfather, but he is dedicated to imparting his family's cricket legacy to his son Taimur Ali Khan. Videos circulating on social media show Saif educating Taimur about their family's cricketing heritage while the young boy plays the sport at a cricket club in London.
In the footage, young Taimur is seen batting in a practice net, dressed in a white T-shirt with a blue stripe, complemented by track pants and sports shoes. Saif, in contrast, opts for a more casual outfit, sporting a grey cord-set paired with a sleeveless black jacket and brown shoes. This new look is reportedly for his upcoming Telugu debut film 'Devara: Part 1.'
Saif's cricket lessons to Taimur
Video captures Saif explaining the concept of cricket 'counties' to Taimur, patiently detailing, 'Counties are like clubs. Like Sussex, Worcestershire. Your great-grandfather played for Worcestershire. Your grandfather captained Sussex.' Taimur listens intently, nodding in understanding, while their cricket coach, impressed by Saif's depth of knowledge, queries, 'Is that right?' to which Saif nods proudly.
Saif's paternal grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, holds a distinguished place in cricket history as the captain of the Indian cricket team in 1946 and the only Test cricketer to represent India and England. He was also bestowed with the title of Nawab of Pataudi. Saif's father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, also known as Tiger Pataudi, captained India and received the CK 'Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award' from the BCCI. Tiger Pataudi married legendary actor Sharmila Tagore.
Saif, married to Kareena Kapoor, has taken it upon himself to ensure that Taimur and his younger son Jeh Ali Khan understand and appreciate their cricketing lineage.
