It’s raining tickets for Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma and Mona Singh starrer ‘Munjya’. Shocking the trade analysts, the film has exceeded expectations at the box office. Horror comedy ‘Munjya’ has earned Rs 11.61 crore nett at the box office in just two days of its release in the country.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films, the movie made an impressive debut at the box office and collected Rs 4.21 crore nett on its opening day. The film witnessed a massive jump of 80% and collected Rs 7.40 crore on day 2 of its release.
Maddock Films shared the film's box office update on X. According to the poster shared by the production house, ‘Munjya’ earned Rs 7.40 crore on Saturday, following which its total box office collection (nett) in the domestic market stood at 11.61 crore. "The love from our audience made #Munjya's second day unforgettable! #Munjya, a must-watch entertainer for families and kids, is in cinemas now!" the banner said.
The film witnessed a promising start with advanced ticket sales reaching around 23,000 across major national chains like PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. Offering subsidised ticket rates, proved beneficial, resulting in fast-filling screenings. 'Munjya's' family-friendly appeal coupled with the ongoing summer holidays is expected to further boost its performance. If the film maintains strong momentum on Sunday and sustains its audience on Monday, it stands a chance to join the ranks of Bollywood's successful ventures in 2024.
The film stars Abhay Verma, Sharvari, Mona Singh, Suhas Joshi and Sathyaraj in main roles. Set in Pune and the Konkan region of Maharashtra, the film follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature which has its roots in Marathi folklore.
'Munjya' owes its success to strategic packaging, reasonable pricing, and its association with Maddock. The film is set in the Maddock Films' horror comedy universe, comprising films such as ‘Stree’, ‘Roohi’, and ‘Bhediya’.
