Hollywood star Johnny Depp will be returning to the director’s seat after a gap of 25 years. He will helm a biopic titled ‘Modi’, which will be based on Italian artist Amedeo Modigilani. Depp will be co-producing the movie with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
The film will star Riccardo Scamarcio in the titular role, while Pierre Niney will play French artist Maurice Utrillo and Pacino will be seen portraying the role of art collector Gangnat.
The project will be introduced to buyers at the film market at the Cannes Film Festival and its production is expected to start in Budapest this fall.
‘Modi’, written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, is based on Dennis McIntyre’s play. It follows the turbulent 48 hours of Modigilani’s life where he tries to end his career and flee Paris while being chased by cops.
Depp is excited to bring ‘universally human story' to the big screen. Meanwhile, Barry Navidi, who previously worked with Pacino on multiple features has described ‘Modi’ as a project that is ‘very close to Al's heart.’
