The cybercrime wing of the Hyderabad Police has filed a case against actor Siddharth for his controversial tweet against ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal on Wednesday.
Senior police told PTI that a case was registered against the actor under IPC Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) and under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, after a woman in Hyderabad filed a complaint against him for his online statements about the badminton player.
Saina Nehwal expressed her gratitude to Siddharth for publicly apologizing for his derogatory statements on her after she raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent security breach.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) asked Twitter India to 'immediately' block Siddharth's account after he replied to the Olympic bronze medalist's tweet on PM Modi's security breach in Punjab a few days earlier. He apologised, calling his remark a 'rude joke' and admitting he couldn't justify his tone and words. Saina expressed her gratitude for his acknowledgment.
