Imtiaz Ali's latest directorial venture, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, premiered on Netflix on April 12 and the film garnered praise from both audiences and critics. Bollywood stars such as Kareena Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, Rajkummar Rao, and Zoya Akhtar, among others, lauded the film for its excellence.
Now, Vijay Varma has joined the chorus of celebrities praising the biographical drama depicting the life of a legendary Punjabi singer ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
The actor took to his Instagram stories and dropped a still of Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh from the film. He wrote, ‘It's been 5 days since I watched chamkila and it refuses to leave me. It is one of the most potent, poignant and extraordinary film I have seen and I want to thank @imtiazaliofficial sir giving us this gift @parineetichopra was delightful as she tapped onto such simplicity and genuineness. In a recent interview with Zoom, Imtiaz Ali shared that he was initially apprehensive about the reaction of Chamkila's first wife, Gurmail Kaur, to certain sensitive scenes in the film. However, his fears were dispelled when she embraced him and expressed her happiness with the portrayal of Chamkila. Ali was delighted by her response and hoped the audience would also appreciate the film.
The period biographical drama is centered around the life of the legendary Punjabi singer, Amar Singh Chamkila, who earned the moniker 'Elvis Presley of Punjab' for his groundbreaking music in the 1980s. Diljit Dosanjh portrays the titular role, while Parineeti Chopra plays his wife, Amarjot.
Vijay Varma's upcoming project is the Manish Malhotra-backed film ‘Ul Jalool Ishq,’ where he will star alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh and Naseeruddin Shah.
