‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ trailer: Sara Ali Khan impresses as freedom fighter in this patriotic drama

After an intriguing teaser, the makers of ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ unveiled its official trailer. In the film, Sara Ali Khan stars as Usha, a courageous 22-year-old, exhibiting remarkable bravery during the 1942 Quit India Movement. She utilizes an underground radio to rally against British rule. 

Inspired by true events, the movie narrates a fictional tale of an underground radio station, led by a courageous woman, altering India's fight for independence. Drawing from freedom fighter Usha Mehta's journey, the film honours both acknowledged and unsung heroes, capturing India's youth's valor, patriotism, sacrifice, and determination throughout the freedom struggle.

A Dharmatic Entertainment production, the historic thriller-drama is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. 

Directed by Kannan Iyer, the film has been written by Kannan Iyer and Darab Farooqui. Besides Sara Ali Khan, the film also stars Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O' Nell and Anand Tiwari in pivotal roles. It also features a special guest appearance by Emraan Hashmi.

‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’ is slated to premiere on Prime Video on March 21 in Hindi with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. 

Sara talks about the film

Sara Ali Khan said, ‘Portraying such a powerful character in Ae Watan Mere Watan has been an honour beyond words. To embody the spirit of my character and diving into her consciousness and understanding what motivates and inspires her has been humbling and empowering.’

Emraan on working with Sara and Kannan

Speaking about working with Sara and Kannan, Emraan Hashmi said, ‘To essay the role of a political leader in the midst of India’s freedom struggle has been an honour. This is my second film with Kannan, who brings a unique sense of purpose to this story. It is also my first film with Sara, whose performance will undoubtedly leave the viewers in awe. I am excited that with Prime Video, a story as poignant as this will reach a global audience.’
