Om Raut's 'Adipurush', starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, has been facing flak ever since its release over its poor VFX and cringe dialogues.

The makers have agreed to revise the controversial lines, but now Kathmandu mayor Balen Shah has announced that no Indian movie will be screened in the Kathmandu metropolitan area and all theatres have been informed about this ban.

In his note on Twitter, Balen Shah said the mythological drama has dialogue that claims Janaki is the daughter of India,  which is objectionable.

He said that if the film is shown as it is, it seems that Nepal's nationality, cultural unity, and national identity will be severely damaged.

He added that if the film is allowed to be shown in other parts of the country or abroad, it will establish misleading facts,  so till the time the objectionable line is removed it is prohibited to show any Indian film in Kathmandu Metropolitan city.

Nabin Manandhar, spokesperson of the KMC, said the cinema halls in Kathmandu will stop showing Indian films from June 19 as per the instruction issued by the KMC.

'We have already talked to the cinema hall owners in Kathmandu for cooperation and they have agreed to voluntarily halt screening Hindi movies within Kathmandu Metropolis from Monday,' he said.

The cinema halls may show Nepali films instead of screening Hindi movies from Monday, he added.

'Adipurush' stars Prabhas as Raghav (Ram), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Sita) and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Raavan).
