The Covid-19 pandemic has not just disrupted the sports calendar but the consequences are being faced by the athletes. Since, the Badminton Federation of India said that the qualifying period for Tokyo Olympics will end on June 15, and there are no more qualifying events left before that, two of India's top shuttlers, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth, will not be able to make to the Summer Games.
A player needs to be in the top-16 of ranking before June 15 to make the cut. Since, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina is ranked 22 and Srikanth is ranked 20, they have missed the flight to Tokyo.
only PV Sindhu qualified from India in the women’s singles category, while Sai Praneeth will be the lone Indian in the men’s singles.
