Union Home Minister Amit Shah is the sitting MP of Gujarat's Gandhinagar. He is all set to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Gandhinagar. Whereas, the Congress has fielded Sonal Patel against him.
Sonal Patel is an All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary. She previously headed Congress' women's wing in the western state from 2012 to 2018.
She studied architecture at the Centre of Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) University. Other than this, she is also a member of several architecture bodies.
Her father was a municipal councillor from Naranpura representing Congress.
Since 1989, Gandhinagar constituency has been a BJP bastion, with the winning candidates being Shankersinh Vaghela (1989), LK Advani (1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014), Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1996), Vijaybhai Patel (1996; byelection), and Amit Shah (2019).
