Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne, whose portrayal of a trans woman in the award-winning film, 'The Danish Girl' won him a lot of accolades, has said that the role was a 'mistake'. The film was heavily criticised for casting Eddie, a cis-gender man in the role of a trans woman in the film.
Eddie Redmayne said he wouldn’t take that job if it was offered to him now. The role won him a Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actor said, "The bigger discussion about the frustrations around casting is because many people don't have a chair at the table. There must be a leveling, otherwise we are going to carry on having these debates."
In the 2015 film, Eddie plays Danish artist in the early 20th century, who was assigned the male gender at birth, Einar Wegener, who later transitions to Lili Elbe.
The Oscar-winning actor currently stars in a new production of 'Cabaret' at London's Playhouse Theatre.
