Delay in communicating bail orders affects liberty of under-trials: Justice Chandrachud

Supreme Court judge Justice D Y Chandrachud on Wednesday stressed on the need to digitise legal processes in order to ensure swifter delivery of justice. 

Speaking at an online event organised by the Allahabad High Court to inaugurate virtual courts and ‘e-Sewa kendras’, Justice Chandrachud said that a very serious deficiency in the criminal justice system is the delay in the communication of bail orders and it needs to be addressed on a war footing. He said that such delays touches upon human liberty of every under-trial, or even a convict whose sentence has been suspended.

His comments comes on the back of Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan's son. spending an extra night in jail because the bail orders did not reach the bail box outside Arthur Jail on time.
