When sprinter Revathi Veeramani received her maiden call for Tokyo 2020, the 23-year-old went blank monetarily and her entire journey flashed in front of her eyes.
The Tamil Nadu-based athlete, who lost both her parents at the mere age of 7, in her interview with Times of India revealed how she fought hard to reach where she is.
Her grandmother Arammal who worked as a daily wager brought her up. Although her journey as a sprinter started barefooted as she had no money to buy a pair of shoes, Revathi is now set to represent India in 4x400 mt mixed relay at the Tokyo 2020.
My grandmother had plans of getting me married, but thanks to Olympics she had changed her mind and wants me to continue what I am doing, Revathi told TOI.
