Delhi on Wednesday recorded 60 mm rainfall, which is the highest 24-hour precipitation in May in 35 years, under the impact of cyclonic storm 'Tauktae', the India Meteorological Department said. The rain continued through Wednesday night till Thursday morning.
The city also recorded a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius, 16 notches below normal and the lowest in the month of May since 1951, the IMD said.
Delhi's maximum temperature was lesser than that of Srinagar, which logged 25.8 degrees Celsius and that of Dharamshala which was 27.2 degrees Celsius. Delhiites usually throng these famous hill-stations in May and June to escape the scorching heat.
The weather office has predicted moderate rainfall in the national capital on Thursday as well.
