Amid fears that a possible third wave of Covid-19 may hit children harder, the health ministry has issued guidelines for the treatment of Covid positive children.
The ministry has said that antiviral drug Remdesivir is not recommended for treatment of Covid in children. It added that steroids should be used to treat only moderately severe and critically ill patients in hospital settings.
In a detailed document titled 'Comprehensive Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children', the ministry has recommended the '6-Minute Walk Test' on children above 12 to assess "cardio-pulmonary exercise tolerance".
In cases of severe Covid illness, oxygen therapy has been recommended.
