Amid calls for a fresh probe into the origins of the coronavirus and greater traction for the Wuhan lab leak theroy, a new study has claimed that Chinese scientists created the virus in a lab.

The new research paper by British professor Angus Dalgleish and Norwegian scientist Dr Birger Sorensen has stated that the Chinese scientists tried to cover their tracks by reverse-engineering versions of the virus to make it look like it evolved naturally from bats.

British media has reported that the research has also found that the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has no "credible natural ancestor" giving more credence to the theory that it was created in a lab.

The study has alleged "deliberate destruction, concealment or contamination of data" at Chinese labs and notes the silencing and disappearance of scientists in China who spoke out about the activities.
