India logged biggest single-day rise in Covid-19 infections in two months with over 47,000 cases in the last 24 hours, government data showed on Thursday morning.
The surge in Kerala is the main factor behind the spike in cases. The state contributed over 32,000 of the fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate in Kerala was reported at 18.76 and with 173 deaths, the number of fatalities increased to 20,961, a state government release said.
509 deaths due to Covid were also recorded in the same period taking the number of total fatalities to nearly 4.4 lakh.
Active cases constitute 1.19% of the total cases, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands 97.48 per cent, the Union Health Ministry said. The daily positivity rate now stands at 2.80 per cent.
The cumulative Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed the 66 crore mark.
