Covid-19: A 3rd of all new cases reported from Maharashtra, UP

A third of all new cases of Covid-19 reported across India on Sunday came from just two states – Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Both the states broke all previous single-day case records on Sunday.

A total of 68,631 new Covid-19 infections were reported in Maharashtra on Sunday, while 30,566 new cases were recorded in UP, the highest and second highest in the country for the day.

Together, they accounted for 36% of the new cases across India. Sunday is also now the seventh day in a row that India has set a new record for the most new cases in a day.

The 10 worst affected states are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan that have together reported 79% of the new infections.
