According to the findings of the fifth National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the use of condoms has increased from 7.1 per cent to 10.2 per cent in Maharashtra.

On the other hand, the use of contraceptive pills among women has down by around 1 per cent and female sterilisation has also shown a slight dip.

While the condom use increase is starker in urban areas and overall a positive trend, the onus of family planning still largely rests with women. Overall, seven out of ten married couples in Mumbai lean towards family planning methods, the report said.
