Chitrakoot jail shootout: 3 inmates killed, jail officials suspended

Three prisoners, including a member of BSP MLA Mukhtar Ansari's gang, were shot dead inside the Chitrakoot district jail on Friday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a probe into the incident. Probe team found that CCTV cameras inside Chitrakoot jail in UP were not working when the three inmates were killed in a shootout.

After the initial probe report, the UP government suspended two jail officials, S P Tripathi and Mahendra Pal. Later three warders were also suspended on charges of laxity

Chitrakoot Range Inspector General of Police K Satyanarain said only after the judicial probe is concluded it can be ascertained how the weapon reached inside the jail.
