It was a night of upsets in the Champions League as defending champions Chelsea were defeated on the road. On their trip to Italy to play Juventus in Group H, a solitary goal by Federico Chiesa before the half-time break was enough to help the home side win 1-0. Chelsea fought hard to find an equaliser but failed to score as they suffered their 2nd consecutive defeat after losing to Manchester City in the Premier League. Thomas Tuchel's men are now 2nd in Group H behind Juventus who have won both their games.

Barcelona's fortunes suffered a major blow in European competition after they lost on the road to Benfica. A 3-0 defeat for Ronald Koeman's team meant that they suffered their 2nd straight loss in the Champions League after losing to Bayern Munich with the same scoreline 2 weeks ago. It further adds pressure on Ronald Koeman who could potentially get sacked after his team's dismal show despite being 5-time winners of the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo once again rescued an under-pressure Manchester United with an injury-time winner in the 95th min of play against Villarreal at the Old Trafford. The 2-1 win helped Manchester United earn their maiden points in Champions League this season after an opening night loss to Young Boys 2 weeks ago. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men lacked deep penetration but a late winner from Ronaldo meant that United rescued their night in the Champions League as they finally won a game after suffering 3 losses in the last 4 outings across all competitions.
