In a big boost to the Centre's redevelopment plan of the Central Vista project, the Supreme Court on Tuesday gave a go ahead of the mega project. In a majority 2:1 verdict on pleas challenging the project, The top court held that the environment clearance to the project is "just, valid and proper". The court, however, added that the Heritage Conservation Committee approval will be needed for construction work to begin. PM Modi had recently laid the foundation of the new Parliament building, which is the part of the 20,000 crore Central Vista project. It involves renovation and redevelopment of 86 acres of land in the heart of Lutyens Delhi. The court has asked the ministry of environment to install smog towers in future projects and to use smog guns during the construction.
