A video making the rounds of social media shows two men, one wearing a PPE kit throwing a body from a bridge into the Rapti river in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district.

After the video went viral, the UP police has identified the victim as Premnath, a resident of Shohratgadh Siddharathanagar, who tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a hospital on May 25, but succumbed to the disease on May 28.

Balrampur authorities say as per the Covid protocol, Premnath’s body was handed over to his relatives for the final cremation. But, his family wanted the body cast into the river. The police have registered a case and the investigation into the incident is underway.
