Caffeine got you buzzing? Try these alternatives to calm your nerves

As much as we are inclined to depend on innumerable cups of tea or coffee for our daily functioning, the caffeine content in these beverages may prove to be harmful. Having a cup or two of caffeine a day may boost your cognitive performance but countless cups of coffee can affect your central nervous system and lead to complicated cognitive disorders.

So, here are some healthier caffeine-free alternatives to your regular beverages, as suggested by the National Library of Medicine of the USA.

Golden milk

Turmeric, a popular spice in Asian cuisine is known for its immunity boosting properties. Golden milk or turmeric milk is an Indian hot beverage made with turmeric, milk, honey and some more spices like cinnamon, cloves and star anise. This beverage is loaded with nutrients and is increasingly becoming popular in Western countries as well.  

Kombucha

Made from fermented black tea with bacteria, yeast and sugar, Kombucha contains many healthy and beneficial probiotics. This fermented beverage is also rich in antioxidants which may make this a perfect drink to start your day with.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile is an herb that comes from the daisy-like flowers of the Asteraceae plant family. Chamomile contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in your brain that promote sleepiness and lowers insomnia. So, try having a cup of hot chamomile tea before bed for better sleep quality.

Matcha tea

Matcha tea is made from a fine green powder derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Matcha tea contains a range of beneficial properties that can protect the liver, promote heart health, and even aid in weight loss.

Lemon water

Lemon water is a great option to start your day. Lemons are rich in vitamin C that boosts the immune system and protects the skin from sun damage. So when life gives your lemons, make sure to make lemon water out of it.
