Sotheby's New York is putting up for sale the largest ruby ever to be auctioned.

The 55 carat ruby is named the "Estrela de Fura."

The ruby discovered in 2022 in Mozambique is a "one in a lifetime find," said Sotheby's gem expert Quig Bruning.

"In short, the largest gem quality ruby to ever come to market. And bit more detail. It's this unique natural treasure. Rubies really never come in this size," Bruning.

Dev Shetty, Fura Gems’ CEO, the founder of company that found the ruby, said his hands started to shake when he first held the ruby.

"You know, every gemstone has got its own story. And this ruby talks to you," said Shetty.

The "Estrela de Fura" is expected to fetch over 30 million dollars.

The Ruby is being offered as part of Sotheby’s “Magnificent Jewels” auction. Also in the auction is a stunning 10 carat pink diamond, known as "The Eternal Pink" diamond.
