PM Modi reveals astronauts' names for Gaganyaan Mission; here's the cost and companies involved

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the names of the four astronauts who are undergoing training for the country's maiden human space flight mission, Gaganyaan.

The four astronauts are -- Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla -- Modi said at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) at Thumba near the Kerala state capital.

Gaganyaan Cost

Gaganyaan aims at demonstrating the capability to send humans to space for 3 days to orbit 400 KM and bring them back safely to earth. Before sending the crew, the mission is planning to a female robot in the first and second missions. For all this, the mission approximately costs Rs 9,023 crore.

Companies Involved 

There are four major companies involved in the mission. They include Pushpak Aerospace and Defence, KCP Infra Limited, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Elxsi.

  1. Pushpak Aerospace and Defence:  This Bengaluru based company is one of the leading companies in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace components, services and solutions
  2. KCP Infra Limited: This Chennai-based had handed over the Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT) – Crew Module Structure to the Indian Space Research Organisation for the mission
  3. Larsen & Toubro: L&T which had delivered components for Chandrayaan and Aditya L1 missions, has delivered a booster segment for Gaganyaan's launch vehicle
  4. Tata Elxsi: Tata Elxsi has designed and developed the crew module recovery model for the recovery team
