Bhavish Aggarwal, the CEO of Ola, has unveiled India's AI innovation, Krutrim, marking a significant stride towards indigenous artificial intelligence. It is deemed as "India's inaugural full-stack AI" solution.

In the announcement, Aggarwal highlighted Krutrim's distinctiveness, emphasizing its foundation rooted in local Indian knowledge, languages, and data. At a live-streamed hybrid event on YouTube, Ola proclaimed Krutrim as a pivotal step away from relying on Western AI models, affirming India's resolve to forge its path in technological advancements.

The name 'Krutrim,' derived from Sanskrit means artificial. The software boasts an impressive comprehension of 20 Indian languages and generation capability in 10, including Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, and Odiya, among others.

Aggarwal articulated India's urgent need to lead the global AI landscape, shedding light on the limitations of prevalent AI models predominantly trained in English. He stressed that language encapsulates cultural nuances and values, which current AI models fail to capture, hindering India's diverse heritage from being adequately represented.

"Krutrim is not just an AI model; it's a gateway to redefine our economy and culture," Aggarwal affirmed. He envisaged an AI-centric economy propelling India as a beacon of innovation, scientific discovery, and cultural expression rather than succumbing to a uniform global paradigm.

Krutrim, a large language model trained on a staggering 2 trillion tokens, showcased its prowess during a demo, exhibiting its capability to generate stories, poems, and content in various Indian languages. Ola's Chief Marketing Officer, Ravi Jain, highlighted Krutrim's potential to revolutionize database applications, promising a blend of performance and affordability.

Anticipating a milestone leap, Ola plans to launch Krutrim Pro in the upcoming quarter, a sophisticated, multimodal AI model designed for intricate problem-solving and task execution.
