ISRO's Chandrayaan-3: Companies behind India's third moon mission

India scripts history as ISRO's ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3's Lander Module (LM) touched down on the lunar surface. With this India becomes the fourth country to reach the moon and first to reach the uncharted south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.

With an estimated budget of Rs 615 crore, Chandrayaan-3 is said to be one of the most cost-effective space missions as compared to its predecessors. This effort is also expected to open wide range of potential for private space firms in India.

This mission will make India the fourth country to safely land a spacecraft on the moon. Here's the list of some of the companies that contributed to the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3:

Larsen & Tourbo (L&T):

L&T supplied important components for Chandrayaan-3. The company adhered to the stringent quality and timeline requirements for the production of space hardware for the mission. L&T manufactured and supplied ground and flight umbilical plates, critical booster segments. It also did proof pressure testing of the critical booster segments. The company played a vital role in the system integration of the Launch Vehicle.

Bharat Heavy Electricals:

Bharat Heavy Electricals had supplied 100 batteries to ISRO for the mission. The New Indian Express quoted an official statement by the company in 2021 that said, "Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has achieved the unique milestone of supplying its 100th battery to ISRO for its very important and critical mission, Chandrayaan-3".

Walchandnagar Industries

Walchandnagar Industries has been instrumental in manufacturing components for all the 48 launches till now that includes the first launch of PSLV-D1 in 1993.

Centum Electronics

Centum Electronics has made roughly 300 to 500 components for Indian space missions.

Godrej Aerospace

Godrej Aerospace is a key component maker for Indian rockets and spacecraft. Godrej has been a part of Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan missions of ISRO

MTAR Technologies

MTAR has manufactured several components for the Chandrayaan-3 mission, including the lander's propulsion system and the rover's navigation system.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

The Bengaluru-based company manufactured the Vikram lander, which is part of the spacecraft that will land on the moon
