Auto giant, General Motors is hitting the brakes on part of its workforce.
The Michigan-based company announced that it's cutting over 1,000 salaried positions as it shifts its gears towards new technology investments.
This includes a substantial reduction of 600 jobs at GM's tech campus near Detroit.
At the close of 2023, GM had a strong workforce of 87,000 hourly and 76,000 salaried employees.
But as the industry evolves from traditional manufacturing to software-driven solutions, these layoffs signal the broader challenges automakers face in navigating this transformation.
