Padma Awards 2024: Taiwan national and Foxconn chairman Young Liu is honoured with the Padma Bhushan. Liu was conferred with the award on the eve of the 75th Republic Day.
Liu who is one among the 132 Padma awardees this year, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan to recognise his contributions as a global business leader.
On being conferred the prestigious award, in a post he said “I am deeply honored to receive the Padma Bhushan from the Government of India. My heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister, President and the wonderful people of India for this tremendous distinction. I firmly believe this is an affirmation of a collaboration that benefits India’s long-term development and supports the growth of local economies. I will continue to inspire my team. Let’s do our part for manufacturing in India and for the betterment of society.”
Young Liu is the CEO and chairman of Hon Hai Technology Group, who has been leading Foxconn since 2019. The company is the largest electronics manufacturer in the world. Foxconn also owns the biggest iPhone factory in the world.
Foxconn has been expanding its footprint in India. An existing iPhone factory in Tamil Nadu employs about 40,000 people. A recent statement from a senior Foxconn official earlier revealed plans to invest $1.6 billion in new projects in India.

As per the company's website, Liu oversees Foxconn’s global operations, encompassing over one million employees across 24 countries/regions and revenues that exceeded USD 206 billion in 2021.
Liu founded Young Micro Systems in 1988, IC design company in 1995, and ITeX in 1997. His firm Young Micro systems merged with Foxconn in 1994 and the latter was listed on NASDAQ in 2001.
Liu's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in Electrophysics from Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University. He then went on to pursue a master's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California.
Liu is among three other business leaders who has been conferred with Padma awards, recognising their distinguished contributions at a ceremony later this year. Sitaram Jindal from Karnataka, to be conferred with the Padma Bhushan, while Kalpana Morparia from Maharashtra and Shashi Soni from Karnataka will be awarded Padma Shri.
Sitaram Jindal is the chairman and MD of Jindal Aluminium Limited. Shashi Soni is the founder of Ijmo Limited which is the world's largest automobile solution provider. Banker Kalpana Morparia is the CEO of the Indian unit of global investment bank J.P. Morgan & Co
