September WPI Inflation: Rises to -0.26% but stays negative for sixth consecutive month

WPI Inflation 2023: September's WPI inflation has risen to -0.26% from -0.52% in August. However, the numbers continue to stay negative for the sixth consecutive month since April 2023. The WPI inflation stood at 10.55% in September 2022. 

Deflation in September is primarily due to a fall in prices of chemical and chemical products, mineral oils, textiles, basic metals and food products as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

WPI Inflation September 2023: Cost of Living

Food index for the month of September stood at 1.54%, compared to 5.62% in August; while WPI for primary articles is at 3.7% in September, against 6.34% in August; and fuel and power inflation for September is at -3.35%, compared to -6.03% in August. 

WPI Inflation September 2023: Retail Inflation

The retail inflation for September eased to 5.02%. In August, the headline print was 6.83%, compared to 7.44% in July, according to data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
