Delhi's peak power demand reached a record high of 8,647 megawatt on Tuesday, according to data from the State Load Dispatch Centre.

The surge in demand is attributed to increased use of air conditioning and cooling devices amid a severe heatwave.

Delhi's peak power demand surpassed 8,000 megawatt for the first time on May 22, 2024, and has crossed this threshold eight times since then.

Previously, the peak power demand was 7,695 megawatt, recorded on June 29, 2022, and in 2023, it was 7,438 megawatt.
Typically, Delhi's power demand peaks in late June or early July, except for last year when it peaked in August.
