The Bombay High Court on Jan 20 granted interim bail to Videocon Group founder Venugopal Dhoot nearly a month after he was arrested in the Videocon-ICICI Bank loan fraud case.

The court noted that the reason mentioned by the CBI for his arrest was 'quite casual and without any substance' and an investigating officer cannot arrest any accused as per his 'whims and fancies', according to PTI.

This is the second time the CBI has received flak from the court in this case.

On Jan 9, the same bench had come down heavily on the investigation authority for making the arrest of Chanda Kochchar and her husband in a casual and mechanical manner and without application of mind.
