Cabinet approves ₹75,021 cr subsidy scheme for rooftop solar installation

The cabinet on Thursday approved the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to equip one crore households with rooftop solar installations.

The scheme, with an outlay of 75,021 crore rupees, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on February 13, 2024.

Scheme provides a central financial assistance of 30,000 subsidy for 1 kilowatt system, 60,000 for 2 kilowatt systems and 78,000 for 3 kilowatt systems or higher.

Households will be able to apply for subsidy through national portal and can select suitable vendor for installing rooftop solar.

Not only this households can access collateral-free low-interest loan products of around 7 per cent at present for installation.

Model Solar Villages will be established across districts, serving as beacons for the widespread adoption of rooftop solar technology in rural areas.
