Apple has created more than one lakh manufacturing jobs in India: MoS IT

Apple has created more than one lakh jobs in manufacturing in the past two years, said the Minister of state of IT and Electronics Rajeev Chandrashekhar. The minister took to twitter and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary PLI scheme has proppeled the Apple eco-system to create direct jobs in India.

He further added that about 70% of the workforce is made up of women in the age bracket of 19-24 years. Apple has created 50,000 direct jobs in the past 17 months alone.

Apple has increased its manufacturing to 7% in the last couple of years. In 2021, India manufactured just 1% of the total iPhones. Apple is also expecting to increase the manufacturing capacity to 25% by 2025.  iPhone exports from India has also increased to over $5 billion in FY23. 

Apple CEO Tim Cook finds the Indian market very exciting and said that the country is at a tipping point. He is in India for the opening of the two retail stores in Mumbai and Delhi
