A prominent cleric in Bangladesh, who has over 3 million followers online has issued a fatwa against people using Facebook's smiley emoji to mock people.
Ahmadullah, is among the country's latest crop of internet-savvy clerics, who regularly appears on television shows to discuss religious issues in the Muslim-majority country.
On Saturday, in a three-minute video on Facebook, he issued a fatwa, explaining why it is "totally haram (forbidden)" for Muslims to use this emoji.
The video of the maulana has been watched over 20 lakh times. Thousands of followers reacted to his video, most of them predictably, made fun of it -- using the smiley emoji.
