In a big move the PM Modi led govt has approved sweeping changes for the telecom sector that was burdened with dues and regulations. Clearing the ghosts of the past the centre approved 9 structural & 5 process reforms on Wednesday.
Here are the big changes for the telecom industry-:
- 4 years Moratorium for payment of AGR dues for all Telecom Companies, Interest on moratorium to be MCLR +2%
- Spectrum Sharing free now, the telecom players are free to share spectrum across the board
- 100% FDI through automatic route in telecom
- Spectrum / Charges regime with interest and penalty rationalised
- The definition of AGR has been rationalised
- Annual compounding of Interest and penalty abolished
- The govt to hold 30yr spectrum auction fees instead of 20 yrs and an auction calendar to be put in place
- All KYC to be digitised and Post paid to Pre paid for KYC not required
- A 1953 Customs notification has been amended which makes it easy for import of equipment
