In the first Cabinet defeat, US President Joe Biden on Tuesday abandoned his plan for Neera Tanden to be White House budget director. The pullback came after a massive pushback from key senators who made it clear that were not going to vote for Tanden. The centrists on both sides of the political aisle opposed Tanden over several of her previous tweets in which she disparaged lawmakers. "I have accepted Neera Tanden's request to withdraw her name from nomination for Director of the Office of Management and Budget," Biden said in a statement. Neera Tanden would have been the first Indian-American to hold the key post.
